Definitions Chapter 2

Fair/Equitable-
Governed by rules that apply to everyone,
taking into account induvidual needs and circumstances.
 Example:in a school there are certain rules that everyone has to follow. 
The consequences are all the same.



Justice System 
The instutions and procedures for applying laws in a society.
Example:When someone is applying a law in society there is certain procedures to follow. Like you can't just pull someone over for driving safely.


Justice 
Applying laws.
  Example:When someone commits a crime then they have broken a law, justice is not being served.


Legeslation
Laws created through the legeslative process.
 
Example: The distracted driver law is a law created through the legislative process.



Validity
Reliability, based on critical assesment of source, facts and bias.   Example:When you tell a lie you are not presenting valid infortmation.

Community Service
Help in the community performed as part of a sentence, 
such as assisting with a community clean-up or food bank.
 
Example:If you do a crime the you will be punished for your wrong doings in different ways. One of them being Community Service. The Service usually relates to the crime the person commited.


Criminal Record
  A permanent record  of breaking the law , which is public information. A criminal record can bar you from some jobs, volunteer positions and travel to other countries.
Example: When you dop something wrong it is briught up in a court of law and put on a record that prevents you from doing certain things.


Sentence
 A consequence for a crime, such as imprisonment, determined by a court of law.
 
Example:When you do something wrong like steal you can get  a fine;go to jail.


Rehabilitation
To instill positive behaviors and attitudes.
  Example: When someone who is addicted to drugs can't help themselves they find others to teach them to stay clean.



Reintigration
To make part of again.
Example:To involve yourself in a group that has shunned you.
